Since most of these constipation problems are caused due to lack of adequate amount of fiber in the diet, it becomes necessary for the people to take up a fiber supplement in order to maintain regular bowel movements. Many health food stores sell fiber supplements with a separate prescription from the ones for nursing women. However, while buying these supplements, it is important that one checks with the pharmacist or dietician whether the supplements are suitable for the individual’s age and lifestyle. Regular and healthy consumption of fiber supplements may also prevent many other colon diseases like colon cancer, gallstone formation and even prevent rectal diseases.
